Greater Noida teen, influenced by mobile game, kills mother, sister
After the Blue Whale Challenge, a mobile game that killed several teenagers across the country, motivating them to commit suicide, another smartphone gaming app is now claiming lives. In a horrific incident, a 16-year-old boy, deeply influenced by a violent game called High School Gangster Escape, reportedly killed his mother and sister in Greater Noida. Read on to know more.
What is High School Gangster Escape?
High School Gangster Escape is a task-based crime-adventure application for smartphones, available both on Android and iOS. Meant for people older than 16 years, it encourages users to play criminal escape games and brutally kill security guards and teachers using "weapons like a baseball bat."
Teen beat mother, sister to death with cricket bat
The Class 10 student reportedly beat his 42-year-old mother Anjali and 11-year-old sister Manikarnika to death with a cricket bat and disfigured their faces with scissors. His father was in Surat for work and grandparents in Uttarakhand to attend a wedding when the incident took place. The boy, who was missing since Monday night, was found by the police in Varanasi on Friday.
Police had announced cash reward to expedite boy's search
The teen had been the prime suspect after the police recovered the bodies from their residence in Greater Noida's Gaur City-2 township on Wednesday. The postmortem report on Thursday confirmed that they died due to head injuries. The cricket bat that was used to kill them has also been recovered. To expedite his search, the police had announced a cash reward worth Rs. 20,000-25,000.
Juvenile is a compulsive gamer
The boy had allegedly fled with his mother's phone and cash worth Rs. 2 lakh that he stole from his home. His father, a businessman, told the police that he had unsuccessfully tried to stop his son from playing the game by seizing his phone in September. But instead of quitting, he started to use his mother's phone to play High School Gangster Escape.
Boy didn't feel loved at home, admits to committing murders
The boy on Saturday confessed that he murdered his mother and sister because he felt his parents didn't love him as they often scolded him for not studying. He reportedly murdered the two in their sleep and boarded a train towards Jammu. He got down at Ludhiana, travelled to Chandigarh, Shimla, Ranchi, before he finally called his father from Varanasi and broke down.
