'Sleeping bandit' arrested for phone thefts at Mathura Railway Station
A man was apprehended on Wednesday at the Mathura Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh for stealing mobile phones. His unusual modus operandi involved pretending to sleep in the passenger waiting room and then quietly robbing other sleeping passengers. A complaint about a missing mobile phone led to his arrest, according to Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector Sandeep Tomar.

The GRP released CCTV footage of the incident after receiving a complaint about a missing mobile phone. The video showed the thief entering the waiting room, lying down like other passengers, and then attempting to rob a man lying next to him. He was seen repeating his actions with another person, successfully stealing a mobile phone this time. "We watched CCTV footage and came across the video," confirmed Tomar.

Thief identified and arrested, admits to multiple thefts
On Tuesday, his thieving days came to an end after he was arrested. He has been identified as 21-year-old Avnish Singh from Etah in Uttar Pradesh. A stolen mobile phone was found on Singh by the police. NDTV reported that Singh confessed to stealing five mobile phones and is now facing theft charges. The GRP is currently working to recover the remaining stolen items.
