Delhi: Drunk father throws 6-year-old into canal for demanding momos
In a tragic incident, a six-year-old boy in Delhi lost his life simply because he demanded some momos from his drunk father. Sanjay Alwi (31) was walking with son Ayaan in the Khadar area Saturday evening when the boy glimpsed a momo-vendor. He asked for some. When Alwi refused, he started crying. Irritated, he picked Ayaan up and threw him into a canal.
Body was found after hours of searching
Passersby saw the development, nabbed Alwi and informed police at 10:10pm. When cops arrived, there was a huge crowd at the spot, who had kept a hold on the man. Police immediately deployed rescue teams, but they couldn't find the boy in the dark. Search resumed yesterday morning and the body was finally fished out in the afternoon. Alwi, an e-rickshaw driver, has confessed.
Alwi has now been booked for murder
Alwi's uncle said his drinking was an everyday problem, but the family was shocked by Saturday's events. Alwi had married Ashma in 2004, but she left him in 2012-13. They had three children. While Nargis (11) and Armaan (10) stayed with Ashma in Sonipat, Ayaan stayed with Alwi and his grandmother in Bhangar Mohalla. He has now been arrested and booked for murder.
