Bihar: 6 children killed, 3 injured in road accident
Six children were killed and three others injured when a car carrying them, skidded off a road and fell into a pit filled with water in Bihar's Araria today, police said. The vehicle was part of a convoy of six cars carrying a marriage party, which was traveling to Raniganj block from Kursakanta block within the district, the District Magistrate said. Here's more.
Deceased were members of extended family
The deceased were in the 8-14 age-group and the members of an extended family. The driver took a sharp turn to avoid hitting a child on the road. The car rammed into a tree, overturned, and fell into the pit filled with water, District Magistrate Himanshu Sharma said, adding the driver fled from the spot. Locals pulled the occupants out of the submerged car.
Ex-gratia of Rs. 4L will be paid to deceased's kin
All the six children were declared brought dead when they were taken to Sadar hospital, Sharma said, adding the injured were out of danger. An ex gratia of Rs. 4L will be given to the next of kin of each of the deceased.
