Sitaram Yechury in ICU for severe lung infection, condition stable
Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), is currently receiving treatment for a severe lung infection at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. The party confirmed on Friday that his condition is stable and he is responding positively to treatment. "Comrade Sitaram's condition is stable," the CPI(M) said in an official statement.
Yechury's hospitalization and treatment details
Yechury was initially admitted to AIIMS on August 19 due to a high fever. He was later transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) for further treatment. On August 31, the CPI(M) announced that he was being treated for a respiratory issue by a team of specialist doctors at the hospital. The exact nature of his illness remains undisclosed.
Yechury's recent activities amidst health concerns
Despite his health concerns, Yechury has remained active in public life. On August 22, he released a six-minute video message mourning the death of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya. He expressed regret for not being able to attend the memorial meeting in person due to his hospitalization at AIIMS. The following day, he posted a message of solidarity between the CPI(M), Congress and National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of its upcoming assembly election.
Yechury's tribute to late friend Abdul Ghafoor Noorani
On August 29, Yechury posted a heartfelt tribute to his close friend Abdul Ghafoor Noorani, who had recently passed away. He described Noorani as an extraordinary intellect in constitutional and legal matters and recalled a personal memory from 1993 when Noorani invited him over for biriyani at his Mumbai flat. "Since then Ghafoor has been a close friend," he wrote, expressing his deep condolences to Noorani's family and friends.
