PM Modi, Shinzo Abe to hold road show in Ahmedabad
PM Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe are all set to grace the city of Ahmedabad. In a first, both leaders will participate in a joint road show during Abe's two-day visit to India on September 13. The show would cover an 8-km distance between the Ahmedabad airport and the Sabarmati Ashram. Let's see what else is on Abe's itinerary.
Shinzo Abe's India visit
Japanese PM Shinzo Abe will visit India on September13-14. As per an Indian Ministry of External Affairs statement, this is the fourth annual summit between both leaders. The two will review the progress of bilateral cooperation and set a future direction.
Ahmedabad to put on a show for Abe
Ahmedabad has prepared a "grand welcome" for both leaders. Pravin Patel, chairman of the Ahmedabad municipal corporation standing committee states that the leaders will be welcomed by a large number of people along the way. "We have erected 28 small stages where dancers from 28 different states, all dressed in their traditional attire, would showcase their performance when these leaders pass," he adds.
Abe to soak in Ahmedabad heritage
After the road show, Modi and Abe are scheduled to spend time at the Sabarmati Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi lived from 1917-1930. They will also visit Sidi Saiyyed Mosque famous for its intricate stone-lattice work. They will then dine at the "Agashiye" restaurant.
What has been planned for the second day?
On September 14, Modi and Abe will lay the foundation stone for India's first bullet train project on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route, a joint Indo-Japan project. Both leaders will also attend the 12th India-Japan annual summit in Gandhinagar happening amid common security concerns over North Korea's recent H-bomb test. The discussions are likely to revolve around matters of defense, trade, and infrastructure.
