Kolkata Police summon Mohammed Shami, his brother for questioning

Kolkata Police have summoned Mohammed Shami and his elder brother Hasib Ahmed for questioning in the complaints filed by Shami's wife Hasin Jahan. Both have been asked to appear at the police headquarters 2pm tomorrow. Jahan has accused Shami of adultery and attempt to murder, his family of domestic violence, and Hasib of rape. Shami is currently playing for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.

Shami and Jahan grabbed headlines last month, when she posted screenshots of his messages with women as well as his photos with purported girlfriends on Facebook. His family abused her and "even wanted to kill me," she said. Shami dismissed these allegations, saying Jahan had lost her mental balance and was trying to sabotage his career. He will take appropriate legal action, he said.

Soon after, he was charged with serious crimes after Jahan filed a police complaint. Hasib was also charged with rape. Some of the charges are non-bailable and punishable by imprisonment for over 10 years, reports said.

Incidentally, Shami has drastically changed his stance. One day, he released recordings of a purported phone call with Jahan, where he's heard requesting her to resolve the matter and focus on the family. The next day, he claimed Jahan had hidden her first husband and their two children from him. Shami was in Kolkata two days ago to play against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Hearing to be held early next month
Earlier this month, Jahan had demanded monthly maintenance of Rs. 10L for her and her daughter from Shami. The hearing in these cases, in which Shami's mother, sister and Hasib's wife are also accused, will be held on May 4. Shami and Jahan had married on April 7, 2014, two years after they met at a party. They have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter together.
