Chhattisgarh: 7 Naxals gunned down by Chhattisgarh Police, Telangana's Greyhounds
Seven Naxals were gunned down in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district today in a joint operation carried out by Chhattisgarh police and their Telangana counterparts "Greyhounds", an anti-Naxal unit of the state. The gunfight took place in a forest near Ipenta village of the district, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg said. The combing operation was launched following a tip-off about the presence of Maoists there.
Weapons and Maoist literature were recovered from encounter site
When the patrolling team was in Ipenta, located 500km from Raipur, an exchange of fire broke out between two sides. After the guns fell silent, security forces recovered the bodies of seven ultras, including that of women, Garg said. Some weapons and Maoist literature were seized from the site, the SP said, adding the search operation was continuing and more details are awaited.
Greyhounds personnel killed 10 Maoists in March
In early March, a team of Greyhounds personnel had swooped on a Naxal camp in Bijapur district as part of a joint operation with the Chhattisgarh Police. Ten Maoists, including seven women, were killed in operation.
