Security forces have killed over 580 terrorists since 2015: Govt
Security forces have killed 581 terrorists since 2015 while 69 personnel died in ceasefire violations, Minister of State for Defense Subhash Bhamre told the Lok Sabha today. In 2015, 108 terrorists were killed by security forces followed by 150 in 2016, 213 in 2017, and 110 in 2018 (up to July 22), Bhamre said in a written response to a question. Here's more.
China spent 3 times more than India on defense
Bhamre said 44 Army personnel and 25 personnel of the Border Security Force were killed in ceasefire violations since 2015. He said as per the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) database on military expenditure, the military spending of China stood at $216,031.30mn and $228,230.70mn in 2016 and 2017 respectively. On the other hand, India spent $56,637.60mn and $63,923.70mn in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Over 1,700,000 acres of land available for defense
Replying to another question, Bhamre said there were 1,757,055.324 acres of defense land. Nearly 838,987.292 acres of land was acquired by the Defense Ministry after independence, he added.
