Northeast Delhi violence: HC stresses on security at exam centers
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi government and the police to ensure security at board examination centers in Northeast Delhi, which was hit by communal violence recently. The court has asked the authorities to ensure no breach of security till all board examinations have concluded. Till Monday, the death toll in the violence had risen to 47.
Court also disposed of school's plea seeking exam center change
Justice Rajiv Shakdher asked the police to continue providing security during board examinations, PTI reported. The court also disposed of a plea filed by the Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir school and parents of some of the students. The plea sought that the exam center allotted to the school by the CBSE be changed. The center is located on the violence-hit Chandu Nagar-Karawal Nagar road.
Petitioners requested center in East Delhi; CBSE displayed reluctance
The petitioners, represented by advocate Kamal Gupta, had argued that it would be hard for the examinees to reach the exam center, New Sandhya Public School, due to violent clashes in the area. They sought to shift the exam center to the East Delhi district with proper infrastructure and security. However, the CBSE had indicated that it had no plans on shifting the center.
CBSE wanted to resume board examinations from Monday
On Friday, the CBSE told the court that it had postponed Class X-XII board examinations scheduled on February 28-29 for in 86 centers across Northeast Delhi. The board, however, said it would resume examinations from March 2. Gupta had argued that there was no police deployment outside the schools. The court had then too asked the government and the police to ensure security.
CBSE approaches Delhi Police against exam leak rumors
The CBSE on Tuesday recorded 97.8% attendance during the Science examination for Class X in Northeast Delhi, a senior board official told PTI. Meanwhile, the Class XII History examination recorded 98.33% attendance in Northeast Delhi. The board on Wednesday also approached the Delhi Police against persons spreading fake news about question paper leaks on social media platforms and creating panic.
