Thane: Police book school headmistress for slapping student for yawning
The Thane Rural Police has registered offenses against the headmistress of a school for allegedly slapping a Class 6 student for yawning during the morning assembly prayer, an official said. The headmistress was booked under Indian Penal Code Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. No one was arrested so far.
What did the victim's father's complaint say?
Quoting complaint of the 11-year-old boy's father, Nayanagar's senior police inspector Balaji Pandhare said, the headmistress took strong objection of his son's yawning and slapped the boy. When the boy's father went to the school to inquire about the incident, the headmistress replied that if children indulge in mischief they "would punish them", Pandhare said. An investigation was on into the matter, he added.
Headmistress had also scolded boy for not carrying books
On June 19, the headmistress had also scolded the boy for not carrying some school books and warned that she would beat him, Pandhare said. Out of fear, the boy was not ready to go to school on June 20. But, his father persuaded him to attend his classes and also complained to the school management about the headmistress, the police official said.
