SC: Jobs secured through fake caste certificates invalid

    What's the story

In a major judgement, the Supreme Court on Thursday held that the admissions and jobs would be considered invalid, if they have been secured under fake caste certificates.

The SC's verdict came after a petition filed by the Maharashtra government against the Bombay High Court's judgment.

The court said its verdict would not come into effect retrospectively but would be applicable from now onwards.

    Context

SC disagrees with Bombay High Court's ruling

The SC bench of Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice DY Chandrachud did not align with the findings of the Bombay High Court.

The Bombay High Court stated if a person continued service for long period of time and the certificate is found fake at a later stage then an individual may be allowed to continue their service, which was quashed by SC.

    Conclusion

Centre takes action against those using fake caste certificates

Earlier this month, the Centre had warned and said people who were using fake backward caste certificates and were working in the government departments will be dismissed.

The Centre had also asked all Central government departments to collect details about fraudulent appointments from various organizations and tackle the situation.
