Surat diamond merchant gifts Rs. 3cr Mercedes-Benz SUVs to employees
Diamond merchant Savji Dholakia, the owner of Hari Krishna Exports, has gifted three senior employees three SUVs worth a total of Rs. 3cr. The employees, having completed 25 years at the firm, received three Mercedes-Benz GLS 350d SUVs worth Rs. 1cr each at a ceremony in Surat. The car keys were handed over by MP governor and former Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel. Here's more.
Which employees received the Mercedes-Benz SUVs?
40-year-old Nilesh Jada, 38-year-old Mukesh Chandpara, and 43-year-old Mahesh Chandpara had joined Hare Krishna Exporters when they were just teenagers. Starting with learning how to cut diamonds and polish them, over 25 years, they climbed the ranks in the firm and currently hold senior leadership roles in the departments of management, cleaving, and manufacturing. They are currently among the company's "most trusted" employees.
What Savji Dholakia said about the employees
"These three had joined us when they were just around 13 or or 15 years old. They started with learning to cut diamonds and polish it and now they are...[the[ most senior and one of the most trusted people of our company," Dholakia told ToI.
Dholakia is no stranger to over-the-top generosity
Notably, this isn't the first time Savji Dholakia is making the headlines for over-the-top bonuses to employees. In October 2014, to mark Diwali, Dholakia gifted hundreds of well-performing employees cars, apartments, and jewellery worth Rs. 50cr. He repeated the same again in October 2015, and in 2016, gifted as many as 1,260 Datsun redi-GO SUVs to employees.
Despite his humble beginnings, Dholakia has a knack for extravagance
Despite his extravagant generosity, Dholakia himself comes from humble beginnings. He came to Surat in 1977 with just Rs. 12.50 for the bus fare. He was joined by his brothers, and they started a diamond business together in 1984. After years of slogging, in 1992, they founded Hari Krishna Exports that currently has an annual turnover of Rs. 6,600cr, and employs over 5,500 people.
