Happy Nari: Bhubaneswar railway station gets sanitary napkin vending machine
An automatic sanitary napkin vending machine has been installed on Monday at Odisha's Bhubaneswar railway station by the East Coast Railway Women's Welfare Organization, an official said. From the machine named "Happy Nari" that was installed inside the second-class ladies' waiting hall on Platform no. 1, anybody can get a napkin by inserting Rs. 5 coin, Madhulika Singh, President of the organization, said.
Machine has a capacity of storing 75 sanitary napkins
"The effort is to ensure comfortable and dignified journey for women train passengers," Madhulika Singh said. Bhubaneswar station has become the first railway station in the state to have installed such a machine. The machine has a capacity of storing 75 sanitary napkins which will be refilled by a woman staff in the waiting room, the organization's President said.
Bhopal, first railway station to get such machine
In January, Bhopal became the first railway station to get such a sanitary napkin vending machine. Earlier, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had also announced "Khushi" scheme under which about 17 lakh school girls from Class VI to XII could get free sanitary napkins.
