What's the story

The Mumbai Crime Branch has detained a fifth suspect, Mohammad Chaudhary, in connection with the shooting incident at Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence. Chaudhary was apprehended in Rajasthan and is believed to have played a supportive role to the two primary suspects already in custody. "Chaudhary is being brought to Mumbai today where he will be produced in the court and a demand for custody will be made," announced the Mumbai Crime Branch.

Suspect's involvement

Chaudhary's role in the Salman Khan shooting incident

Chaudhary is alleged to have aided the shooters by scouting the location and providing them with funds for the attack on Salman Khan's Bandra residence. The incident occurred on April 14, when two attackers on a motorcycle fired shots outside Galaxy Apartments, where Khan resides. They also directed gunfire toward Khan's apartment before making their escape.

Tragic turn

Death of arms supplier adds twist to case

The case took a dark turn with the death of Anuj Thapan, an alleged arms supplier involved in the shooting. Thapan was found dead in his cell on May 1, reportedly due to suicide. Mumbai Police revealed that Thapan had attempted to end his life while in custody and was declared dead after being rushed to the hospital. His detention had played a crucial role in uncovering the network responsible for arming those behind the attack.

Legal appeal

Thapan's family petitions for CBI investigation

Thapan's family has petitioned the Bombay High Court for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into his death. His mother, Rita Devi, suggested foul play and asserted her son was murdered. She also requested the preservation of call data records (CDR) of police officials involved in investigating the shooting from April 24 to May 2 and demanded a new post-mortem examination for Thapan.
