RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's security upgraded to PM Modi's level
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has upgraded the security protocol for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, from Z-plus to an Advance Security Liaison (ASL). This new level of protection is on par with that provided to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The decision was made following a review that identified potential security lapses during Bhagwat's visits to non-Bharatiya Janata Party ruled states.
Bhagwat identified as target by several organizations: Report
The decision to enhance Bhagwat's security was finalized two weeks ago, following inputs from various agencies about his increased threat perception, reports said. The RSS chief is reportedly a target of several anti-Indian and radical Islamist groups. This led the MHA to classify Bhagwat as an "ASL protectee." All states and Union Territories have been officially informed about this security upgrade.
ASL protocol involves local agencies in security measures
The ASL protocol necessitates the involvement of local agencies such as the district administration, police, health, and other departments related to the security and safety of the protectee. The strategy includes multi-layered security rings and rigorous anti-sabotage checks. Under this, helicopter travel for Bhagwat will be permitted only in specially designed helicopters following a specific protocol.
