₹7 crore cash seized after vehicle overturns in Andhra Pradesh
Police in Andhra Pradesh have seized cash amounting to ₹7 crore ahead of the assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the state on May 13. The incident occurred while the vehicle was en route from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam. The cash was discovered packed into seven boxes inside a commercial vehicle that had overturned after colliding with a truck. Local residents noticed the transfer of cash from one sack to another inside the overturned vehicle and promptly alerted the police.
Cash seizure incident details and investigation
The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to Gopalapuram Hospital for medical treatment. The seizure marks the second major cash haul seizure in Andhra Pradesh. Just two days ago, another unaccounted cash haul worth ₹8 crore was confiscated from a truck at a checkpoint in the state's NTR district. In that instance, the cash was found hidden in a secret compartment of a pipe-loaded truck.
