Bengaluru: Customs officials seize Rs. 6.5cr-worth sedative drug at airport
The customs authorities have seized 12.9kg of methaqualone, a sedative drug, worth Rs. 6.5cr at the airport in Bengaluru. The psychotropic drug was banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The drug was booked from Chennai to Kaula Lumpur, customs officials said, adding that the consignor had dispatched it by courier in the guise of palm sugar.
Consignment could be part of international drug racket: Officials
The customs officials said that the consignment was supposed to be sent to Kuala Lumpur by a Chennai-based export firm. The drug was packed in plastic packed and kept inside bigger packets of palm sugar, which had a declared value of Rs. 6,000.
