Just a reminder: Now-silent personalities once spoke about petrol-price hike
The soaring prices of petrol and diesel across India have troubled citizens. On Tuesday, the price of petrol and diesel in Delhi was Rs. 76.87 and 68.03 respectively. In this scenario, the silence of many influential people who were vocal about rising prices in UPA rule didn't go unnoticed. Twitter users dug out old tweets of celebrities and politicians to reveal their hypocrisy.
In 2012, Amitabh Bachchan joked and rhymed about rising fuel-prices
The biggest superstar of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, may have forgotten what his tweet, dated 26 May 2012, read but netizens rarely ignore anything. Big B wrote a couplet on rising petrol price. On 23 May 2012, the megastar even joked how it was enough to sprinkle few drops of petrol on a vehicle to run it. Now, he is just quiet.
What happened to these couplets, Sir?
Akshay Kumar's tweet promoting bicycle ride has vanished
Akshay Kumar invited ire of Twitter users when they learned he deleted an old tweet. On 27 February 2012, the star had tweeted, "Guys, I think it's time to clean up your bicycles and hit the road! As per sources, expecting another petrol price hike." Now, Kumar has chosen the path of silence (on a car or bicycle, is what we would like to know!)
Thankfully, Mr. Kumar didn't delete all his tweets
Anupam Kher keeps quiet on hike too
On 14 October 2012, Anupam Kher joked his driver kept his motorcycle as a showpiece because of skyrocketing prices. Now, that petrol prices are inching towards a century slowly, Twitter users wished to know the actor's reaction. In return, they got silence.
Are the politicians any better? No, not at all
Sitting in the Opposition, the now Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj had tweeted on November 3, 2011, that petrol price hike was a big blow to common man from an insensitive government. But, now that prices are rising in Bharatiya Janata Party's regime, she has chosen silence just like her party leaders.
Here's her tweet to remind she was once vocal
NDA modeled 2014 campaign around petrol price hike
The NDA government planned its campaign for the 2014 general elections on petrol price hike. The 'Abki Baar Modi Sarkar' tagline was used repeatedly and UPA was warned it will not be forgiven for rising prices. Cut to 2019, the Narendra Modi government has done nothing to contain the prices. What will be the punchline ahead of Lok Sabha elections next year, we wonder!
