Rishikesh: Students beat junior to death, school buries body
In a ghastly incident, a Class VII student of a boarding school in Rishikesh was allegedly beaten to death by his seniors earlier this month. Rather than informing the police or taking stringent action against the accused, the school hurriedly buried the body. After the case caught attention, police launched a probe. Five have been booked and arrested for murder. Here's what happened.
Students were angry with Vasu after his action invited punishment
According to reports, the crime took place on March 10 when students of Children's Academy went for an outing. The victim, identified as Vasu Yadav, allegedly stole a packet of biscuits from a shop whose owner informed the school authorities. Subsequently, the school administration prohibited students from leaving the campus. This made students angry and they took out their rage on Vasu.
Vasu was tortured for hours, taken to hospital much later
The Class 12 students not only beat Vasu with bats and wickets, but they also poured cold water on him. He was tortured for hours in the afternoon and was taken to the hospital only in the evening. The doctors at the facility declared Vasu brought dead. Without alerting police or his parents, who live in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur, school authorities buried his body.
Five accused have been arrested, will be presented before magistrate
The student's body was exhumed for a post-mortem which revealed he died due to internal injuries. His father Pappu said the authorities told him Vasu died of food poisoning. Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti said the school's manager, warden, physical training teacher, and two students, have been arrested for murder. The accused will be presented before the magistrate on Thursday, said reports.
