Kolkata doctor rape-murder: CBI arrests RG Kar ex-principal, top cop
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mandal, the officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station. The arrests were made in connection with alleged delays in filing an FIR and missing evidence related to the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at the hospital in Kolkata. Both individuals are accused of destroying evidence and obstructing the investigation process.
Ghosh's previous arrest and polygraph tests
Ghosh had previously been arrested by the CBI in a separate case involving alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar College and Hospital. He is currently under judicial custody until September 23. As part of their investigation into the rape and murder case, the CBI conducted two rounds of polygraph tests on Ghosh on August 26.

Demands by doctors
Since the rape and murder, doctors have been protesting, demanding justice for the trainee doctor. On Tuesday, they began a sit-in outside Swasthya Bhavan, the headquarters of the state health department, with five demands. This includes holding all individuals responsible for the rape and murder, as well as any destruction of evidence, accountable and punishing them. They also demanded strict disciplinary action against Ghosh, the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, and Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam, among others.
CBI's progress report deadline and victim details
Last week, the Calcutta High Court set a three-week deadline for the CBI to submit a progress report on their ongoing investigation into the case. The report is due to be presented before the court on September 17. The 31-year-old victim's body was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9, with autopsy reports indicating she had been brutally raped before being murdered. On August 10, the Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy.
