Delhi: Rs. 25k-bounty on man who masturbated at DU student
The Delhi Police has announced a Rs. 25,000 reward for anyone providing information regarding the unidentified man who masturbated next to a 23-year-old DU student and tried to molest her on a moving bus last week. Even seven days after the incident, cops failed to trace the accused. The girl filed an FIR at Delhi's Vasant Vihar police station on 10 February. Here's more.
Informant's identity would be kept secret: Senior officer
A senior Delhi Police officer said anyone could provide information about the accused at Vasant Vihar or other police stations. He also added that the identity of the informant would be kept secret. The cops have appealed to the public to help them nab the culprit. Anyone who leads to his arrest will be rewarded with Rs. 25,000, said the officer.
Video of man masturbating uploaded on social media
The DU student recorded a video of the accused during the act and posted it on social media, which sparked massive outrage across the country. She even asked for help but the fellow passengers conveniently ignored her. She was "shocked and numb," and uploaded the video on Twitter and tagged PM Narendra Modi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, and Delhi Police, hoping for action.
Incident took place between Vasant Vihar and IIT Gate
In her complaint, the girl claimed she raised alarm after seeing the man masturbating next to her but no one helped her. The accused even tried to touch her waist. The incident took place on a bus going from South Delhi's Vasant Vihar to IIT Gate where the man got down after which she tried to approach fellow commuters but didn't get any cooperation.
Booked under sections pertaining to sexual-harassment, obscene act in public
Vasant Vihar Police registered the FIR under IPC Sections 354 (sexual harassment), 354A, and 294 (obscene act in public place) on 10 February. According to the woman, the police took six hours to register the FIR, a claim which the cops denied.
