Repolling ordered in Manipur's 6 polling stations
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ruled the polling at six stations in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency on April 26 as void. A fresh round of voting is slated for Tuesday, April 30, as declared by the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur. This decision was taken under Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, following allegations of threats, intimidation, and booth-tampering during voting on Friday.
Which are the 6 stations
The six stations where repolling will take place are 44/20 Shangshak (A), 44/36 Ukhrul (A), 44/41 Ukhrul (D), and 44/50 Ukhrul (F) of Ukhrul AC of Ukhrul district, 47/33 Oinam (Al) of Karong AC of Senapati district, and 45/14 Chingai polling station of Chingai AC of Ukhrul district. In an official letter to Manipur's Chief Electoral Officer on Friday, the Manipur Congress revealed disturbing cases of EVM destruction, booth-capturing, manipulation, and forced voting reportedly carried out by armed individuals.
Voting on Friday occurred across 848 polling stations
The voting on Friday occurred across 848 polling stations in 13 of the 28 Assembly segments under the Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat. The remaining 15 Assembly segments had already cast their votes in the first phase on April 19, along with the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat. Approximately 82% of around 4.85 lakh eligible voters had cast their votes in other parts of the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency on Friday.
