Rape accused on the run for nine years arrested
A man on the run for the last nine years after registration of a rape-cum-abduction case against him in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district was arrested on Tuesday. The absconding accused Mohd Mushtaq was arrested from the Arnas area in the district on a specific tip-off, an official said. In the same case, the police are on the hunt for another accused Mohd Sharief.
Mushtaq had been evading arrest by changing his hideouts
After the commission of the crime in 2012, a case was registered at the Reasi police station. Mushtaq never joined the investigation or was arrested. A warrant was issued by a court of Reasi's Chief Judicial Magistrate. The accused had been evading arrest by changing his hideouts, in and out of J&K. Another accused Mohd Rafiq, who was arrested earlier, is out on bail.
Rape accused on run for three years also arrested
In a similar incident earlier this month, a rape accused on the loose for the last three years was arrested from Reasi. Qayoom Hussain (21) had evaded arrest after he was booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Infant Marriage Reservation Act, and Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) in 2018 at the Mahore Police Station.
Accused was declared an absconder by a local court
Hussain was arrested by a special police team from Reasi based on specific information. The police had filed a chargesheet against the accused in the sessions court in Reasi and proved the case with the help of scientific evidence and medical examination of the woman, expert opinions of forensic science laboratory, and oral statements. The accused was declared an absconder by a local court.
