Here's how to re-verify your SIM through Aadhaar
A week after saying Aadhaar-SIM linking through SMS is not "safe", UIDAI has approved the blueprints presented by telcos for linking through OTP. Earlier, it had allowed people to get it done by either visiting their telecom service provider's (TSP) website or calling on their helpline. The OTP-based SIM re-verification scheme will be rolled out from December 1. Here's all you need to know.
How to re-verify SIM online
To re-verify your SIM online, you need to visit your TSP's website and enter your mobile number on the relevant page. The TSP will then send you an OTP which you have to enter on the website. You have to check the consent box on the next page, then enter your Aadhaar number. It will be encrypted while being transmitted to the UIDAI.
How to re-verify through call or SMS
For IVR re-verification, you have to call up from the number you wish to re-verify. A consent message will be played. Subsequently, an OTP will be sent on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number, which you have to enter. The process will be similar for SMS verification. Telcos will soon issue detailed guidelines. For any process, your mobile number has to be registered with the UIDAI.
You might have to visit the store in certain circumstances
Along with these, customers can also choose to walk into retail stores for the re-verification. Those whose mobile number isn't registered with Aadhaar will have to compulsorily visit the store. However, telcos will have to provide the facility at home for the elderly, disabled and chronically ill. The deadline for linking Aadhaar with SIM is February 6, 2018.
