Osmania University students stage protest after blades found in food
What's the story
Students of New Godavari hostel, Osmania University, Hyderabad, protested on Tuesday night after razor blades were allegedly found in the curry served for dinner.
To show their anger, students blocked the university's main road, carrying the curry vessel and plate as they chanted slogans against the administration.
They called for an immediate meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof M Kumar to discuss their concerns.
Recurring problems
Protesters allege recurring incidents of foreign objects in food
Protesters claimed this wasn't an isolated incident. They alleged that two days ago, worms were found in the cabbage curry served at the hostel mess.
MA Philosophy student and Osmania University ABVP president Chelimela Druhan said, "Earlier, a student found glass pieces in the food. Whenever we raise the issue, the mess staff assures us it won't happen again, but the problems keep recurring."
Quality concerns
Students express dissatisfaction over food quality and service
Druhan also complained about the mess staff, saying they don't follow their schedule and students have to serve themselves, particularly at dinner time.
He pointed out that students pay ₹2,500-₹3,000 a month for substandard food in the hostel mess.
Despite several complaints to the university administration for a solution, Druhan said this problem continues.
Water woes
Water supply issues also raised by students
Apart from food quality, students also complained about the water supply in the hostel.
They alleged there was no regular supply of water, and tankers were being brought in to supply water from an unknown source.
Improper hydration has caused several health issues in students.
The students have urged the administration to install a borewell instead of relying on tankers for water supply.
