Rajasthan: Rape-victim's family can't buy groceries after village-panchayat orders boycott
In a village in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district, a rape victim's family is facing social boycott after the victim refused to change her statement in the court against the accused. The diktat was given by the village panchayat and the family was also forced to pay Rs. 11,000 fine. After being ostracized, the family couldn't even buy groceries and other basic items for survival.
Panchayat issues diktat, despite the case being under judicial investigation
The panchayat issued an order despite the case being under judicial investigation. Speaking of the behavior the family was subject to, the victim said, "When the case was underway, some villagers came and threatened us to withdraw the case and compromise, to which we denied, following which they have been boycotting us." The victim sought police protection for her and her family members.
Accused intoxicated victim, blackmailed her
Reportedly, the accused intoxicated the victim and shot her videos which he used for blackmailing. The victim informed Rajasthan Women Commission about the atrocities. The President of the commission, Suman Sharma said, "I had a conversation with the SP. I have been informed that the victim will be given security and FIRs under criminal offenses have been registered against the villagers."
