Bihar-shocker: Wife and daughter allegedly gangraped in front of man
In a horrific crime, some men intercepted a medical practitioner in Bihar's Gaya late Wednesday, assaulted him, tied him to a tree and then gangraped his wife and daughter. Though they threatened him before leaving, he immediately informed police, who detained 20 people within hours. The victims have identified two of them as the others were masked. The incident has caused massive outrage.
The family was robbed before the women were raped
The man was returning home with his 45-year-old wife and 14-year-old daughter after shutting his clinic in Gaya's Guraru Bazar. When they were passing through Sondiha, armed men stopped their bike and snatched their cash and jewelry before tying him to a tree. They then took turns to rape the mother and daughter. Before fleeing, they tied them all up and warned them against informing police.
20 people arrested, being questioned in custody
According to some reports, the gang had robbed two bikers before this crime, who had also been held captive. They allegedly witnessed the assault. Within the next few hours, police had rounded up 20 people with the help of locals, who put up roadblocks. The Konch SHO, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, has been suspended for dereliction of duty and departmental proceedings initiated against him.
Bihar saw more than 3 rapes daily till March
The mother of four and her teenage daughter have been sent for medical examination. Reports are awaited. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav targeted the government, saying, "Nitish Kumar, after joining hands with the BJP, has buried law and order." The first three months of this year saw 289 rape cases in Bihar, more than three per day. Last year, 1,198 cases were registered.
