Unnao rape: Accused BJP MLA's brother arrested by police
BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar's brother Atul Sengar was arrested by Uttar Pradesh crime branch on Tuesday in Unnao rape case. Further, four supporters of MLA- Vineet, Bauwa, Shailu and Sonu, were arrested on Monday. The FIR was filed under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of IPC.
How has the case transpired so far?
An 18-year-old girl alleged BJP MLA raped her, and no action was taken against him for one year. After going from pillar to post seeking justice, she along with her family members, tried self-immolation outside UP CM Yogi Adityanath's house on Sunday. Ironically, an FIR was filed against the family and her father was arrested. In a shocking twist, he died in judicial custody on Monday.
Death of victim's father shows ugly side of police
The father of the victim, Surendra Singh was arrested on April 4 and had marks on his back suggesting being beaten up with sticks. Jail superintendent said, "On April 8, he complained of abdominal pain and vomiting. His blood pressure too was very low, so we took him to the district hospital. He was admitted there around 8.45 pm and passed away at 3.45 am."
Damaged intestine led to father's death, reveals post-mortem report
A medical officer said the father's intestine was damaged when brought to the hospital. He contacted an infection and went into shock later. The post-mortem report states 'Cause of death shock & septicemia due to peritonitis & ascending colon perforation'.
Victim wants death penalty for Kuldeep Singh Sengar
The victim said she wants Kuldeep Singh Sengar arrested. She said, "I demand that they be hanged till death. They've made my life miserable. I want justice. They killed my father." Meanwhile, the rape accused MLA mocked the victim family by calling them 'lower-level' people. Facing ire from all corners, Adityanath promised strict action and said no one will be spared in the case.
