Rajnath Singh launches Ayushman Bharat scheme in Lucknow
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today launched the Center's flagship Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Ayushman Bharat, in Lucknow, his Parliamentary constituency, noting that it will prove to be a "Modi kawach" (Modi shield) for the poor. "Today is a historic day for the country. The scheme will prove Modi kawach for the poor and will be highly beneficial for them," Singh said.
Center decided to spend 2.5% of GDP on health: Singh
"Now the poor will not have to beg for treatment. The scheme will generate employment. The Center has also decided to constitute national digital health authority and will spend 2.5% of GDP for health sector," Singh said at the launch, which also had Governor Ram Naik in attendance. Meanwhile, UP MoS (Health) Mahendra Singh said the scheme will benefit six crore people in UP.
Scheme to become operational from September 25
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme today in Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand, while UP CM Yogi Adityanath launched it in his hometown, Gorakhpur. The scheme will become operational from September 25, the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, said a NITI Aayog official.
