    What's the story

Dentists Rajesh and Nupur Talwar -awaiting release following their acquittal in the 2008 Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case- would visit Ghaziabad's Dasna Jail every 15 days to attend to inmates with dental problems.

They were lodged in Dasna Jail since Nov'13 after being sentenced to life imprisonment.

They would likely be released on 16 October after the Allahabad HC acquitted them in the case.

    Information

    Acquittal in the case

In Nov'13, a special CBI court awarded life sentence to the Talwars in the sensational double murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. They challenged the sentence in Allahabad HC, which acquitted them on 12 Oct'17.

Talwars helped revive prison hospital dental department

A Dasna Jail official said that the dentist couple helped in reviving the "near defunct" dental department at the prison's hospital.

Jail doctor Sunil Tyagi said they were concerned about the fate of the dental department after the Talwars' release.

He added, "They (Talwars) have assured us that they would visit jail to attend to inmates every 15 days even after their release."

    Patients

More patients are consulting Talwars after acquittal: Dr. Tyagi

The Talwars have not only been treating the prison inmates but also the jail staff, police officials, and even their children.

Dr. Tyagi said the couple had treated thousands of patients after coming to the prison, adding the patients are really happy with their treatments.

Rajesh's brother Dinesh Talwar, an ophthalmologist, would also visit the prison every 15 days to see the patients.

Dr. Tyagi said they tied up with a Ghaziabad dental college to manage the "rush" of patients after Talwars' release. He added, "Doctors from the dental college will also visit Dasna Jail twice a week to attend to patients so that inmates don't face problem."
