Rajasthan HC lawyers end month-long strike after CM Raje's assurance
Agitating lawyers of the Rajasthan HC today in Rajasthan's Jodhpur decided to suspend their strike following the assurance from Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje that no committee will be formed to look into the demand for a new bench in Udaipur. The advocates from Jodhpur, who have been on strike since May 21, would resume work in the court from tomorrow.
Would resume strike, if anything happens in future: Lawyers' Association
The decision was taken after a general house meeting of the advocates at the Library Hall of the court on today morning. After the meeting, Kuldeep Mathur, President of Rajasthan High Court Lawyers' Association, however, warned, "If anything happens against our interest in the future, we would resume the strike in order to protect the identity of Jodhpur as the judicial capital of Rajasthan."
Raje earlier ordered to form committee under state Law Minister
On May 19, Raje ordered to form a committee under the chairmanship of state Law Minister Pushpendra Singh Ranawat to look into the demand of the advocates of Udaipur for a circuit bench of the HC there. Jodhpur advocates have thus been on a strike. However, on June 16, Ranawat told a delegation of Jodhpur advocates that no such committee has ever been formed.
