TN: Heavy rains may lash coastal districts in 48 hours
Heavy rains are likely to lash parts of coastal districts of Tamil Nadu in the next two days, following a trough of low over the Bay of Bengal, the regional weather office said today. In the last 24hrs that ended at 8.30AM today, there were widespread rains in many parts in coastal Tamil Nadu and neighboring Puducherry, Meteorology Deputy Director General, S Balachandran said.
Trough of low over Bay of Bengal caused heavy rainfall
The trough of low over southwest Bay of Bengal and neighborhood now runs from Comorin area to southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra-Pradesh coast. "That's why, there were widespread rains in the last 24hrs in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry," Balachandran added.
Intermittent showers expected in Chennai and neighborhood areas
According to data, Ponneri and Cholavaram in Tiruvallur district recorded 13cm and 8cm of rainfall, respectively, followed by Kancheepuram at 7cm. One or two places in Tamil Nadu's coastal districts may see heavy rains in the next two days, while light showers were likely in most places in the state and Puducherry. There would be intermittent showers in and around Chennai during this period.
