Rs. 12cr from Nirbhaya Fund for CCTVs at railway stations
Railway stations in the Delhi Division have seen some horrific crimes in recent times. In June at Ballabgarh, Junaid Khan was lynched on a train. At Shakurbasti, a mob forced its way into a train and looted five-six passengers at gunpoint. In view of such crimes, Northern Railways has been sanctioned Rs. 12cr from the Nirbhaya Fund to install CCTV cameras at 20 stations.

Giving more details about the plan, Delhi DRM RN Singh said 573 CCTV cameras, including pan-tilt-zoom devices, will be installed at the 20 stations. "Ballabhgarh station will get 16 cameras, 25 at Adarsh Nagar and 17 at Palwal. 74 cameras will be installed at Shakurbasti, 65 at Sabzimandi, 44 at Gurugram and 40 at Sahibabada stations, among others," said an RPF officer.
Only 11 out of 232 Delhi Division stations have CCTVs
Apart from Ballabgarh and Shakurbasti, other stations too have seen serious crimes. At Adarsh Nagar, a man was lynched for stealing Rs. 1,500. At Palwal, two youths were thrown off a moving train after an argument. Incidentally, only 11 out of Delhi Division's 232 stations have CCTVs installed. Singh says this is the first time Nirbhaya Fund is being used by the Railways.
