Indian Railways to fire 13,000 employees on 'unauthorized leaves'
According to a Press Trust of India (PTI) report, the Indian Railways said on Friday that it had identified 13,000 employees who would soon be fired. The employees in question are absentee employees on "unauthorized leave", and the Indian Railways will terminate their (nonexistent) services. The move is expected to boost the morale of sincere and diligent employees.
Absentee employees to be weeded out soon
"Railways have instructed all officers and supervisors to weed out these employees from the employees' rolls after following due process," said the Indian Railways in a statement.
Railway minister Piyush Goyal specifically asked for an inquiry
Identification of employees to be sacked happened after Railway Minister Piyush Goyal asked top Railway officials to launch a drive to identify long-term absentee employees who had been taking pay without work. The drive found that 13,521 employees, or around 1% of the 13 lakh strong Indian Railways workforce were long-term absentees who would often sign in the muster and leave for personal work.
