An additional 4,000 trains will ply this festive season
Making travel plans easy for lakhs, the Railways is introducing 4,000 additional trains for this festival season. These special trains will run during October 15-30. However, this might be bad news for employees: the Railways is considering canceling leaves of staff to deal with the rush. In the next one month, India will celebrate Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath.
Where will these trains run?
"The railways will run special trains from different places to popular destinations and add additional coaches to existing trains. For Chhath, special services will be introduced from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad to eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar," said MoS Railways Manoj Sinha. Some would run from sub-stations in big cities to accommodate the greater traffic. Last year, there were 3,800 extra trains.
Other extra facilities during the festive season
Extra trains are just a part of the Railways' facilities this season. There would be additional reservation windows at stations and no requirement of platform tickets in case of rush. At major stations, there would be Puja pandals.
