Central Railways makes over Rs. 283 crore by selling scrap

The Central Railway announced on Thursday that it launched a "Zero Scrap Mission" to make all stations, depots, installations, sections, workshops, workplaces and sheds across all units completely scrap free by selling them.
In the financial year of 2022-23, the Central Railway made approximately Rs. 283.61 crore between April and November by selling scrap, which is significantly higher than its goal.

Sale higher than last year for same period
The Rs. 283.61 crore earning of the Railways through scrap sales is nearly 29.54% more than the proportionate target of Rs. 218.92 crore until November this year.
Furthermore, reports also suggested that this was the highest-ever sale by the Central Railway from April to November.
However, the sale during the same time period was Rs. 280.18 crore last year.

As part of the "Zero Scrap Mission," scrap waste is getting sold from all divisions and various depots of the Central Railway. Government officials have confirmed that the same would also continue in the coming future, with expectations of earning more revenue from it.

General Manager of the Central Railway Anil Kumar Lahoti stated that the disposal of scrap has not only assisted in bringing in revenue but also helped in keeping the premises clean and environment friendly.

Central Railways earned Rs. 530.34 crore last term
In April, officials confirmed that the Railways secured total earnings of Rs. 530.34 crore by selling scrap for 2021-22.
An official said: "The earnings for the corresponding period last year were Rs. 391.43 crore. This is the highest ever revenue achieved by Central Railway from sale of scrap. With this sale, Central Railway has surpassed the target of 400 crore set for FY 2021-22."

According to official reports, the railways earned Rs. 138.91 crore more than it earned during last year's corresponding period.
"Central Railway has launched Zero Scrap Mission to ensure each Division, Workshop and Shed is free from scrap materials. These scrap materials include scrap rails, permanent-way materials, condemned coaches, wagons and locomotives, etc.," General Manager Lahoti said.
