2 railway employees arrested with illegal liquor in Bihar
Two railway employees were arrested from a Patna-bound train near the city on Tuesday for trying to smuggle liquor to dry Bihar. The train was traveling to Patna from Gujarat, the police said. Acting on a tip-off, the GRP personnel raided the train's locomotive at Danapur and arrested the loco pilot and his assistant. The GRP found liquor in the locomotive's cabin, police said.
Liquor was being carried in tetra-packs
The liquor was being carried in tetra-packs and the GRP recovered five bags full of such tetra-packs from their possession, a GRP officer said. "The liquor was being brought by the Azimabad Express coming from Ahmedabad. We conducted a raid and found the five bags full of liquor hidden inside the engine's cabin," the SHO of Danapur GRP police station, Abhay Kant Chandra, said.
300 tetra-packs containing liquor found
The SHO said the bags contained close to 300 tetra-packs containing liquor and "the loco pilot along with assistant loco pilot were arrested." "The two are being interrogated for further details such as from where they had brought the consignment and where they intended to deliver it," Chandra said. Sale and consumption of liquor were banned by the Nitish Kumar government two years ago.
