'Looking forward to..': Rahul Gandhi as he arrives in Dallas
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday for a three-day visit to the United States. He was welcomed at the airport by Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), and members of the Indian diaspora. This is his first trip to the US after becoming Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.
Look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions: Gandhi
In a Facebook post, Gandhi said he was eagerly looking forward to engaging in meaningful discussions and insightful conversations that will further strengthen the bond between the two nations during this visit. "I am truly delighted by the warm welcome I've received in Dallas, Texas, USA, from the Indian Diaspora and members of the Indian Overseas Congress," he wrote.
Gandhi to address Indian diaspora, meet US lawmakers
During his visit, Gandhi is expected to address the Indian diaspora and meet with influential lawmakers. He will also participate in a series of discussions on various topics including global politics, India's role in the world, and the future of democracy. The Congress MP is also scheduled to speak at a public meeting organized by the IOC in Dallas on Monday.
Gandhi's previous visits to the US
Gandhi had also visited the US in 2017 to interact with global thinkers and political leaders. He addressed students at the University of California, Berkeley, where he spoke about contemporary India and the path forward for the world's largest democracy. Notably, since the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, Gandhi has been gaining popularity and support for his views on a variety of public-interest topics.
Many requests for interactions with Gandhi: Pitroda
"Since Rahul Gandhi has become the leader of the opposition, I, as chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress...have been bombarded with requests from Indian diaspora diplomats, academicians, businessmen, leaders, international media, and many others for interactions with Rahul Gandhi," Pitroda said earlier. Gandhi won both the Lok Sabha seats he contested: Rae Bareli and Wayanad, but he retained the former.
