Nagpur: Cop showers money on girls performing on R-Day, suspended
What's the story
In a shocking incident, a cop in Nagpur's Nand Village was caught on camera showering notes on girls performing at a cultural function on Republic Day, Saturday.
The cop identified as senior constable Pramod Walke was posted at Nand chowki under Bhiwapur police station. It is reported he was in an inebriated state.
After the video of the incident went viral, he was suspended.
What happened
School was celebrating Republic Day, Walke committed shameful act
The incident took place at Zilla Parishad School of the village on January 26. The girls of Class 6 were dancing on the Jai Ho song from Slumdog Millionaire.
While the girls, all aged between 11-12, were dancing, Walke walked on the stage and showered notes on them.
Walke was clearly drunk and his demeaning action prompted fury from children's parents.
Defense
Walke says people wanted him to give money to girls
Nand village police station chief Santosh Vairagade confirmed the incident and said Walke has been asked to submit his response.
In his defense, Walke said he had gone to the school to assess security when some people collected cash and handed it over to him.
He added the people were impressed by the girls' performance and wanted him to give them money.
Details
Notably, teachers of school didn't take action
Notably, Vairagade said though Walke's moves were found objectionable, his body language didn't show any vulgarity.
A report was submitted to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Ola and he was supposed to take the final decision.
While Walke's actions deserve criticism, the video showed teachers of the school didn't intervene when he showered cash on the girls. They were just sitting idle.
