Kolkata rape-murder: What questions are parents of victim asking Mamata
The parents of a postgraduate trainee doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College have raised several questions in the case that they claim still remain unanswered. They have accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of trying to quickly bury the case, stating that they have refused compensation. "We are unhappy with the CM. No results have come out of the inquiry that is being done. We hope we will get results," the father told ANI.
Victim's father accuses CM Banerjee of suppressing public anger
He accused Banerjee of suppressing public anger over his daughter's murder. He told reporters, "The Chief Minister speaks at length, walking the streets demanding justice for my daughter. Yet, at the same time, she attempts to suppress public anger." "Why is she engaging in duplicity? Is she afraid of people?" he said. The Kolkata Police have cracked down aggressively on social media posts on the rape-murder incident, even arresting a student who allegedly called for Banerjee's killing.
Victim's mother questions CM Banerjee's commitment to justice
The victim's mother also questioned Banerjee's commitment to ensuring justice for her daughter. She stated, "She (CM Banerjee) said that the culprit will be arrested as soon as possible, but nothing has happened so far." The grieving mother criticized the state government's schemes aimed at women empowerment, calling them "pseudo" and urging people to ensure their daughters' safety first.
Parents were initially misled about their daughter's death
The parents of the victim were initially misled about their daughter's death. They were told over the phone on August 9 that she had committed suicide at the hospital where she worked. The mother recalled, "First we got a call from the hospital that your daughter is sick, then the call was disconnected." When they called back, they were informed about her alleged suicide. "Just by looking at her, it seemed that someone had murdered her," she said.
'Not possible for one person'
Given the nature of the damage, the father alleged that more than one person was involved. "All the people we spoke to, even MBBS doctors. agreed that it was not possible for one person to do so much damage," he told NDTV. In another interview, the father alleged that no one from the police department or the RG Kar College cooperated with them. "The entire department is involved in this," he said.
