Punjab: Toddler vomits blood after eating expired chocolates, hospitalized
A one-and-a-half-year-old girl from Ludhiana, Punjab, vomited blood and had to be rushed to the hospital after she ate expired chocolates. The incident occurred during a family visit to relatives in Patiala, where she was given a snack box containing the expired chocolates. Medical examinations confirmed that her illness was directly linked to these chocolates.
Investigation reveals source of expired chocolates
Later, the state health department and local police were alerted about the incident. When the police and the health department arrived at the shop where the snack box was purchased, they discovered that it was selling expired food items. The officials also seized other expired snacks from the shop.
Previous incident echoes current food safety concerns
This incident mirrors a similar case from March this year, when a 10-year-old girl from Patiala tragically died due to suspected food poisoning after consuming a birthday cake. Other family members also fell ill but recovered eventually. The bakery responsible for the cake was found to be operating under a false name and without proper registration, and the cake consumed by the family was stale.
