Investigation underway into potential sabotage attempt
This discovery follows recent reports of suspicious items found along railway tracks nationwide. On Sunday, a goods train traveling from Kanpur to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh narrowly escaped disaster after the driver spotted an empty gas cylinder on the tracks and quickly applied emergency brakes. The Northern Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officers (CPRO) stated that security teams removed the cylinder from the tracks and an investigation into this matter was underway.
Railway track tampering incidents increase across India
A day before that, an alleged attempt to derail trains was reported in Surat, Gujarat. Unidentified individuals tampered with a railway track by removing fish plates and loosening several bolts. Earlier on September 20, the loco pilot of the Doon Express averted a potential disaster after spotting horizontally placed iron rods on railway tracks in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. A six-meter-long iron rod was also discovered on the railway tracks between Bilaspur Road and Rudrapur city in Ajmer on September 19.
