Punjab CM Amarinder Singh writes to Sushma on Kartarpur Sahib
Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take up the issue of opening the corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib with the Pakistan government. In a letter to Swaraj, Amarinder said Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan's Punjab province was one of the most-revered religious places for Sikhs, as Guru Nanak spent a large part of his life there.
Amarinder had requested Swaraj earlier too
Pointing out that the gurdwara lies around 4km westwards from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur (India), Amarinder said the State Government had, time and again, as recent as in August, requested the Center to take up the issue of opening the corridor with the neighbor.
Punjab Assembly passed resolution seeking uninterrupted opening of corridor
Referring to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak this November, the Chief Minister of Punjab apprised Swaraj that the state Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution on August 27, seeking uninterrupted opening of the corridor to the gurdwara. The gurdwara is also notable for its location near the border between Pakistan and India and is visible from the Indian side of the border.
