Pune: Frozen rat embedded in ice supplied to hotels, vendors
A dead rat was found encased within an ice block reportedly sourced from an ice-manufacturing factory located in Junnar. The discovery was made by a local vendor who supplies large quantities of ice to various businesses across Pune. According to reports, the vendor caters to numerous establishments including factories, hotels, restaurants, and street vendors selling chilled beverages and desserts.
Public outrage over hygiene negligence in Pune
The disturbing sight of the frozen rodent within the ice block quickly went viral on various social media platforms. Images and video clips of the incident have sparked widespread public outrage. Accusations are being leveled against Pune district officials, the state Food and Drugs Administration, and other relevant agencies for their alleged negligence in maintaining hygiene standards, particularly during the summer season when demand for ice is at its peak.
Residents demand swift action from authorities
Following the incident, local residents are demanding immediate action from authorities. They are calling for inspections to be conducted on these agencies to ensure that health and hygiene standards are being strictly adhered to. This incident comes shortly after another shocking discovery where samosas served at a staff canteen in Pimpri-Chinchwad were found to contain inappropriate materials.
Pune Police takes action on food caterer
In relation to the samosa incident, five individuals from an external private food caterer have been booked by Pune Police. One person was arrested and is currently in judicial custody until April 22 as further investigations continue. Senior Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Katkar of Chikhli Police Station confirmed these details.
