IIT Roorkee organizes 'Exuberance', an annual sports fest
The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) of the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, is organizing an annual sports fest named, 'Exuberance'. The festival includes indoor, outdoor and digital sports. Among the outdoor sports are football, basketball, and badminton, while for the indoor sports, foosball, chess, and carom are being played. The event is being held from August 20-28.
The addiction of PUBG is true
"My brother introduced me to the game of PUBG. Now, I am myself a PUBG enthusiast. I was so thrilled when I got to know that this game is a part of the sports fest," said Radhika, a first-year MBA student at IIT Roorkee.
Students looking to change myth of PUBG being male-dominated game
Radhika went on to say while there is a common myth the PUBG is generally a male-dominated game. Radhika, along with other girls, is looking to change this notion. "I wish to change this belief by giving a tough competition to other players. I am excited and I am going to play to the best of my abilities," she added.
Professors believe introduction of PUBG would help in cultivating skills
Meanwhile, the professors at IIT Roorkee too expressed their delight at PUBG being introduced at the fest. They said that this would help in cultivating skills like multitasking, teamwork, focus, along with a sense of judgment. They also believe that the event itself acts as a strong platform for both juniors and seniors to display their strong sporting and athletic abilities.
A perfect platform to 'inculcate the competitive spirit'
"The plethora of events ensure that no student is devoid of the opportunity to display his sports skills. Hence, the aim of inculcating the competitive spirit in each and every student is successfully achieved," said MK Baruah, MBA, DoMS head of IIT Roorkee.
PUBG was introduced due to current trend
As far as the rationale behind the introduction of PUBG at the fest is concerned, Baruah said that keeping in mind the current trend, it was introduced as it attracts a number of students. Other digital games like Counter-Strike and FIFA have been played in the fest since the past few years as the trend of eSports continues to grow strong.
