Prajwal Revanna breaks silence amid sexual abuse allegations
Suspended Janata Dal (Secular) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Prajwal Revanna has publicly addressed the ongoing scandal surrounding videos of him assaulting multiple women for the first time. In a post on X, he declared, "Truth will prevail soon." He also stated that he had asked his legal counsel to communicate with the CID and sought seven days to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning, as he is not in Bengaluru.
Prajwal assures cooperation with investigation despite absence
The SIT, which is probing the case, issued a notice to him and his father, HD Revanna, to appear for questioning within 24 hours. The Karnataka government formed the SIT on Sunday to investigate the alleged sex scandal following a letter from Dr. Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, chairperson of the women's commission, to the government. The letter allegedly addressed videos of the politician sexually abusing women and coercing them into having sex.
Prajwal denies allegations, claims videos 'doctored'
Prajwal has categorically denied the allegations against him. He claimed that the explicit videos allegedly featuring him were "doctored." Despite refuting the allegations, Prajwal fled to Germany on Saturday and filed a police complaint the next day, alleging that the clips were "doctored" and distributed to "tarnish his image and poison voters' minds."
JD(S) suspends Prajwal
On Tuesday, the JD(S) suspended Revanna, the sitting MP from Hassan, over his involvement in the sex tape scandal. Committee President GT Devegowda stated that the party will suspend him until the SIT investigation into him is completed. Multiple sex tapes of Revanna with several women were allegedly circulated among voters in Hassan, even during the campaign. According to the police, a pen drive with 2,976 videos was circulating among Hassan residents. Hassan went to the polls on April 26.
