Pune Porsche accident: Accused teen's day plan at remand home
The 17-year-old boy from Pune, who was reportedly intoxicated and driving his father's ₹2.5 crore Porsche without a license plate, has been sent to an observation home after causing a fatal accident. The crash resulted in the deaths of two 24-year-old software engineers. The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) ordered his stay at the Nehru Udyog Kendra observation home in Yerawada until June 5, following a public outcry over the board's decision to grant him bail 15 hours after the accident.
Teen's daily schedule in observation home detailed
The teenager's daily routine at the remand home includes breakfast between 8:00am to 10:00am, followed by a prayer session. From 11:00am to 1:00pm, he and other inmates will attend classes, with a rest period from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Snacks are served at 4:00pm, followed by an hour of TV time and two hours of outdoor sports like volleyball and football. Dinner is served at 7:00pm, after which the juveniles return to their dormitories at 8:00pm to sleep.
Rehabilitation and mental health support for teen driver
In addition to the structured schedule, the teenager will undergo psychological assessments and receive support from a psychologist, psychiatrist, or counselor. These measures are aimed at aiding his mental health and facilitating his reintegration into society. The support is part of the rehabilitation process designed for juveniles in the observation home. According to an official, the observation home currently houses over 30 minors.
Arrests and public outcry following the accident
The teenager was initially granted bail by the JJB on Sunday. His bail condition included writing a 300-word essay on "road accidents and their solutions," studying traffic rules for 15 days, and attending counseling for his drinking habit and psychiatric treatment. However, following public outcry over the quick bail, police approached the JJB for a review of its order. The boy's father, a prominent real estate developer, and two hotel employees were also arrested for serving alcohol to a minor.
Charges against the teen
The boy now faces charges including drunk driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder if tried as an adult. He was reportedly out with his friends to celebrate after passing his Class 12 exam. The teen reportedly spent ₹48,000 in 90 minutes at one of the two pubs he visited before the accident, which claimed the lives of Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa.
