Telangana: Serial-killer raped and murdered teens, now arrested
Telangana has been reeling from shock after a man accused of raping and murdering teenage girls was arrested by police. The serial killer had been committing the grisly crime for years now and confessed them too. He was nabbed after parents of a 14-year-old girl filed a missing complaint last week. After an investigation, police learned the crime was more horrendous than expected. Here's more.
Accused confessed he killed 14-year-old, dumped her body
Last week, parents of the 14-year-old complained to Bommalaramaram Mandal police about their missing daughter. Subsequently, police arrested a 27-year-old, identified as Marri Srinivas Reddy. The accused confessed to killing the minor and pointed police towards a well in Hajipur village, which is some 100 km away from Hyderabad. When police went to the spot, they found the girl's body buried in a dry well.
Accused offered lift to victim, then raped her
Reportedly, Reddy approached the victim, a Class 9 student, when she was returning home from school. He offered her lift and then abducted her. After raping her, he threw her in the well of his agricultural land. When police went to the well, they were shocked to see another body there. This girl too was raped and murdered by Reddy.
Parents of second victim didn't approach police thinking she eloped
The second victim, said to be 17 years old, was raped in March. Like the 14-year-old, Reddy offered her lift and then violated her. Notably, the parents of the older victim hadn't filed a police complaint assuming that she eloped with her partner. Yadadri Bhuvanagiri DCP, Narayana Reddy, said a team of doctors, RDO, and Tehsildar were present when bodies were discovered.
Reddy raped and murdered another girl in 2015
But the count didn't stop here. After learning about the cases, parents of an 11-year-old approached police. Their daughter went missing in 2015 and despite going from pillar to post, the never got any answers. Reddy admitted that he murdered and raped the third victim as well. He dumped her body in a well, next to his. Her clothes helped in her identification.
Locals vandalized Reddy's house, questioned authorities
Locals of Hajipur village fumed after learning of the heinous crimes. They torched Reddy's house and questioned authorities over the security of girls. Collecter Anita Ramachandran visited the village to take stock of the situation. Notably, the only mode of transport in the village is buses, which run for a limited time. Villagers asked how can they send their girls to schools now.
Reportedly, Reddy murdered and raped females in Karnataka, Andhra too
Telangana police launched an independent probe and their Andhra Pradesh counterpart informed them that Reddy was needed for murdering a sex worker in Kurnool in March 2015. He murdered her after an altercation related to money. Andhra police couldn't arrest him as he had fled to Telangana. They also told him that Reddy is needed in Karnataka for rape and murder cases.
