PM Modi stresses on importance of character building over literacy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of character building over literacy and called for the "wholesome" education in the country. "Knowledge and education aren't restricted to books. The purpose of education is to enable balanced growth of every dimension of a human being, which is not possible without innovation," he said today in New Delhi while attending a conference by HRD Ministry.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of "Conference on Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence" organized by the Ministry, he said, "BR Ambedkar, Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Ram Manohar Lohiya always emphasized on character building over literacy." Citing Swami Vivekananda, who stressed on wholesome education that makes us a human, he asserted, "Innovation is very important because, without it, life seems like a burden."
Conference attended by VCs, directors of over 350 educational institutions
"In ancient universities like Takshashila, Nalanda, and Vikramashila, innovation was given emphasis. I insist that students should add their knowledge to the aspirations of the country," Modi said at the conference that was attended by VCs and directors of over 350 educational institutions.
